Gameplay[edit]

Two basic characters will be given in the start of the game (Nexus modes Junis and Junis Blue) in Versus mode. The other characters must be unlocked via Nexus mode. But some characters, (Noa, the One and Next) will be unlocked if you complete special tasks. In Nexus mode, you will appear in Anphans mode, until you battle the monster to a certain state, then you will evolve, becoming either Junis or Junis Blue (depending on the Dunamist you pick). If you die, you will become a Night Raider and travel through a forest to shoot at the monster until you can transform. In every 2 or 3 stages, you will face off against a boss (Dark Faust, Dark Mephisto or Dark Zagi). If you lose, the boss will revive one of the monster and you will have to shoot at it until you can transform again and destroy the monster. To unlock some monsters, you must die and fight the monster as a Night Raider.

Gameplay modes[edit]

  • Nexus Mode: Players can play as one of the two dunamists available in the game.
  • Night Raider Mode: Players can play as Kazuki Komon in 3 different training programs. A special mission is also available in which players kill Space Beasts to collect data.

Showa versus Heisei in Banpresto's latest fighter.
By Anoop Gantayat

If you thought Banpresto was done with the Ultraman thing after numerous videogame appearances from the license over the past few years, something is clearly wrong with you. Japan and Banpresto love their Ultraman, and that ensures a steady string of videogame adaptations, the latest being .

A one-on-one fighter like its predecessors, Fighting Evolution 3 brings back your favorite original 'Showa' generation Ultraman characters including Ultraman A, Ultraman Jack, Ultraman Leo, and Ultraman Taro and adds 'Heisei Ultraman' characters like Gaia and Cosmos. This will apparently let the kids (who were most likely born in Japan's 'Heisei' period) play along with their dads (who were most likely born in the 'Showa' period).

Modes of play include the expected Battle and Training Modes. The game also has a Custom Mode where you can customize special attacks for all the characters. A Tag mode allows for two versus one battles and an Ultra Mode has players work through missions in order to progress. Finally, there's a view mode designed for the real Ultraman fan who just loves to take extended looks at these masked kung fu warriors.

Ultraman Fighting Evolution 3 is due for Japanese PS2 release in December. An American release is not expected and will never happen.
